DavidLRobertsPhD.org is a brand under which I own and run a successful private practice, author books, and serve as an advocate/educator/activist for and on behalf of those I serve. The primary focus of all of my efforts both professionally and personally is on low income kids and their families. I have been providing services to this community since 1992 and it has become my life's work, and what I firmly believe to be my calling. I have a very strong aversion to any form of personal or social injustice, and am always amazed to find evidence of these travesties within many of our public agencies, institutions, and organizations. Many people see me as a threat to their livelihood, and yet they recognize that I am an expert relative to the kids and families I serve and represent.
I have had an amazing past filled with many trials and opportunities for both growth and insight into the suffering of others. These awarenesses, along with my work on myself personally, have given me a rather unique perspective and a vast collection of experiences, training opportunities, educational pursuits, and exposure to people from many walks of life. While I am from Mobile, Alabama, I lived in California for 15.5 years, during which time I encountered people and cultures from around the world. My multicultural training and my ability to speak sufficient Spanish have given me some amazing chances to get to know people on very personal levels, and see things from their perspectives as well. Believe me, no one is better than any one else. However, in many instances some people are better off than others. My heart goes out to those who are considered by society to be throwaways and undesirable elements within our general United States culture. The world is shrinking relative to borders, and we are rapidly expanding to a higher need for full inclusion and acceptance of all people within our lives and borders.
It is my hope to expand awareness and acceptance by everyone for everyone. My primary focus is on, and will always be on kids from very young ages all the way through adolesence and into early adulthood. Children do not ask to be born, and they have no control over the people they are born to, or the cirsumstances into which they are delivered. Therefore it is the responsibility of every adult, within all professions relative to children, to be respectful and supportive regardless of their socioeconomic status, cultural differences, or the lifestyles of their older family members. The time has come to be very aware of all of the many adult roles and responsibilities which need to be modeled by all adults if kids are to have any chance of living successfully in the world when they reach adulthood. These principles are even more important for parents to embrace and model.
